Dear Timberview Band Members and Parents,
We are looking very forward to the upcoming year in the THS Wolf Band. Our staff has already been working hard on our 2024-25 production, and it is turning out to be exciting and entertaining!
Hopefully, you were able to attend our Spring Marching Preview and saw that we have great potential and exciting things planned for you in the coming year! Although the 2024 school year has ended, summer vacation offers many musical opportunities for you/your student. May we suggest:
• Enjoyable, stress-free practice time
• Attendance at live concerts to experience new and interesting musical styles
• Solo or ensemble performances at church, civic groups, or family gatherings
• Growth in musical taste and understanding by listening to a variety of music
Parents can serve as surrogate music educators by guiding your young person towards musically oriented activities. Please encourage them to find some avenue of musical expression and not let their artistic language become dormant. It is the most important gift you can give your child.
Music is an interactive language. When one plays or sings, the listener as well as the performer is actively engaged in the exchange. The weeks ahead can provide an opportunity for you to be the performer and the listener. Through this, you may gain a new level of understanding and appreciation of music.
We know that there are many, many questions about next year. We addressed some of these at our Spring Marching Preview, but this letter’s purpose is to answer as much of those questions for you as possible. As a band staff we are extremely pleased that you are a part of the Timberview High School Band.
The following information is extremely important for both students and parents to read. This letter is designed to explain in more detail many of the band events between now and the start of classes. Please read it very carefully as some information may have changed from previous years! A comprehensive THS Band Calendar is available on the band website www.timberviewband.com. Many policy and procedure questions will be answered in our 2024-25 Band Handbook, which will be distributed at Band Registration and the first day of full band camp.
Band Registration will be July 27. To make the band registration day successful, it is important that we take care of all the students’ needs that day. Please do not miss or schedule vacations on or past July 15. We will be in and out of the office through most of June and July so if you have questions please call the band hall at 682-314-1518 or email Mr. Mullins at ericmullins@misdmail.org. I will be glad to help you any way I can or answer any questions you might have.
Band Registration for All Band Members – July 27, 2024
Student Leader Band Registration — July 26, 2024
The concept of this day will be to take care of all documents, fees, remaining instrument needs, any other necessary paperwork, to help students find their slots, music, and materials, and to give the kids and parents a chance to meet each other and ask any questions about band. AT LEAST ONE PARENT MUST ATTEND WITH EACH STUDENT. You need to be prepared to pay some of your Marching Band fees on this day (see fee breakdown). You will need to arrive during your scheduled times (sign up now: Leadership Sign Ups / All Band Sign Ups) to at least fill out medical forms and pay registration fees. Understand, however that uniform accessories will not be released to students until all documents are completed and all fees are paid (or a payment plan is set up with the Treasurer). To make the day run smoothly, here is a list of what you must bring with you:
1. All instrument maintenance supplies that you have (reeds, oil, swab, snakes, rods, etc…). A music store representative will be on hand to purchase anything you need.
2. Your lyre AND flip folder (as proof that you still have one). BAND SUPPLIES CAN NOW BE PURCHASED PRE-REGISTRATION RIGHT NOW through our new THS BAND Brook Mays Store.
3. Any items that you do not want to purchase again . . . like your shoes, shorts, GBS, tote bags, water bottle, etc. Most required Items must be purchased PRE-REGISTRATION through our TMF Store. See more information below with the band fee info.
4. All medical information including current medical conditions, regular medications, SSN and insurance information. Please bring your INSURANCE CARD so we can make a copy.
5. Your completed UIL Pre-participation Physical Evaluation.
6. Method of payment (check, cash, or credit card).
Registration will be by appointment. You must sign up for a time slot for July 26 (leaders only) or July 27. There will be four students every 15 minutes. Plan on the entire process taking about an hour, and we will endeavor to make it shorter so you can be pleasantly surprised!
